InVideo AI

AI assistant editor on a real multitrack timeline, with a free manual editor

invideo is a browser-based video editor with an AI assistant that cuts and arranges footage on a multitrack timeline from plain-language instructions. It also generates video, image and audio with models from several vendors, paid for with per-seat monthly credits. Since September 2026 the manual editor is free to use, and an MCP server lets outside AI agents edit inside it.

ReelStack has a commercial partnership with InVideo. It doesn't change what we write: this page is based on InVideo's own pricing and product pages, and lists the downsides too.

Why it stands out

What makes InVideo AI different

  1. 01

The AI works on a real multitrack timeline, and every edit it makes can be adjusted by hand afterwards.

  2. 02

Exports an editable project to Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve with cuts and layers intact, so the AI cut can move into a finishing workflow.

  3. 03

One credit pool covers video, image and audio models from several vendors, so you can compare models without separate subscriptions.

  4. 04

The MCP server lets an existing agent such as Claude or ChatGPT work inside the timeline instead of only producing prompts.

  5. 05

The manual editor is free, so the AI credits only go toward generation and assistant work.

The Feature

About InVideo AI

The core of invideo is an editing agent (Agent Two) that works on a conventional multitrack timeline. You describe the edit in everyday language, for example a first-draft cut from raw interview footage, multicam switching by speaker, or removing silences and filler words. The agent places its work on the timeline, and you can take over and adjust it by hand with keyframes, Bezier easing, colour grading with scopes and LUTs, an audio mixer and version control.

The 2026 changes are mostly about the editor itself. The invideo Editor launched on September 1, 2026 as a browser-based multitrack editor with the assistant built in, and the manual side is free with no stated project or footage limit. On September 30, 2026 invideo added an MCP server, so agents such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI can make timeline edits, colour and audio changes and generation calls inside the same project.

The generation side is a credit-based hub. The site lists video models from Google, OpenAI, Kuaishou (Kling), ByteDance (Seedance), Alibaba (Wan) and others, plus image and audio models, all paid from one credit pool per seat. Pricing is per seat, with Starter, Plus and Max plans and a discount for annual billing.

It suits short-form, ad and explainer work where a fast first cut matters and the editor will finish in a traditional NLE. It is less suited to pipelines that need a public API or to high-volume generation on a fixed budget, because video models use credits quickly and credits do not roll over.

The Verdict

When to reach for it — and when to skip

Reach for it when…

  • The manual editor is free to use, with no stated project or footage limit
  • Editable project export to Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve keeps cuts and layers
  • One credit pool covers video, image and audio models from Google, OpenAI, Kuaishou, ByteDance and others
  • The MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT and other agents work inside the timeline
  • Mobile apps for iOS and Android

Skip it when…

  • Credits are per seat and do not roll over to the next month
  • Seedance 2.0 at 4K and Seedance 2.5 are only on Plus and Max; Starter gets Seedance 2.0 Fast and Mini
  • Video generation uses credits quickly: the pricing page estimates about 15 Seedance 2 videos a month on Starter and about 52 on Plus
  • No public API is documented, so automation runs through the MCP server or the in-app agent
  • Team features are described as needing a Team or Enterprise plan, which the public pricing page does not list

Best For

✓ Ideal for

  • Short social, ad and explainer videos built from generated clips, stock and talking-head footage
  • Cutting talking-head, podcast and multicam recordings: silences, filler, angle switching and chapters
  • Editors who want an AI first pass and then finish in Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
  • Comparing several video and image models without separate accounts

✗ Not built for

  • Pipelines that need a public API for batch generation
  • High-volume generation on a fixed budget, since credits are per seat and expire at renewal
  • Desktop-only workflows with offline media management
Field Notes

Working Tips from Filmmakers Using InVideo AI

  1. 01 Do rough cuts and manual trims in the free manual editor, and spend credits only on generation
  2. 02 Check the credit cost of a model in your account before a batch run; the pricing page figures are estimates
  3. 03 Export an editable project to Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve when the cut needs finishing in your usual tools
  4. 04 Since unused credits expire at renewal, start on a monthly plan for a busy month and move to annual billing only once usage is steady
