Exploration Mode
The update introduces a non-linear workflow for image generation that prioritizes rapid visual brainstorming. Creators can now view a spread of diverse interpretations for a single prompt to find the right aesthetic faster.
Recraft has launched Exploration Mode, a feature designed to change how designers and visual artists approach the initial stages of image generation. Instead of forcing users to commit to a specific style or technical setting upfront, this update allows for a broad visual search across different artistic interpretations. This shift addresses a common friction point in AI tools where creators often feel locked into a specific look before they have fully explored the creative possibilities of a prompt.
What's new
Exploration Mode functions as a visual discovery engine within the Recraft interface. When activated, the tool generates a diverse set of variations that span different styles, compositions, and lighting setups rather than iterating on a single aesthetic. This allows users to see a wide spectrum of what the model can produce based on their text input.
Key features of this update include:
- Simultaneous generation of multiple stylistic directions.
- A simplified interface that removes the need for complex style presets during the initial phase.
- The ability to select a preferred direction from the exploration grid and then transition into the refine phase for detailed adjustments.
- Improved handling of abstract concepts that might have previously required multiple manual prompt adjustments (see the provider's announcement).
How it fits your workflow
For filmmakers and storyboard artists, Exploration Mode acts as a digital mood board generator. During pre-production, you can use Recraft to quickly visualize a scene without needing to know if it should look like a charcoal sketch or a cinematic photograph. By seeing these options side-by-side, you can identify the visual language of a project much faster than through linear, one-at-a-time generation common in tools like Midjourney or DALL-E.
Graphic designers and illustrators can use this to bypass the "blank canvas" phase. Instead of tweaking a prompt for twenty minutes to get a specific vector style, you can use Exploration Mode to see four or five distinct vector interpretations and then double down on the one that fits the brand guidelines. It effectively replaces the tedious trial-and-error process of adding and removing style keywords from a prompt. This workflow keeps the creative momentum high by focusing on selection rather than technical troubleshooting.
What it costs / how to try it
Exploration Mode is available to users directly within the Recraft web application. Users can access the feature by toggling the new mode in the generation settings on the Recraft website.
