Comfy Router Standardizes Media Generation Under One API

ComfyOrg released Comfy Router, a single API designed to run ComfyUI workflows across multiple cloud providers and model backends. Developers and studio technical directors can now swap models or hosting providers instantly without rebuilding their underlying infrastructure.

ComfyOrg released Comfy Router, a unified API designed to run ComfyUI workflows across different cloud providers and hardware backends. The new service allows developers to build a media generation pipeline once and dynamically route jobs to different models or hosting providers as needed. This release addresses the fragmentation in AI video and image generation, where switching between models often requires rewriting entire integration pipelines.

What's new

Comfy Router acts as a single API endpoint that standardizes how applications interact with ComfyUI workflows. As of February 2025, the router allows developers to deploy complex node graphs and execute them across a variety of cloud GPU providers without changing their application code.

The system automatically manages infrastructure scaling, queue optimization, and cold starts. Instead of manually configuring server clusters on services like RunPod or Vast.ai, developers can upload their ComfyUI JSON workflows directly to Comfy Router. The API then handles the execution, choosing the most efficient path based on real-time hardware availability and cost.

How it fits your workflow

For technical directors and developers building creative tools, Comfy Router simplifies backend management. In a typical production pipeline, switching from an older image generator like Stable Diffusion XL to a newer model like Flux.1 Pro usually requires updating API endpoints, payload formats, and error-handling logic. Comfy Router eliminates this friction by serving as a translation layer.

This service positions ComfyOrg as a direct competitor to media API aggregators like Fal.ai, Replicate, and Hugging Face. However, unlike standard model APIs that only offer single-model inputs and outputs, Comfy Router supports full ComfyUI node configurations. This means multi-step pipelines—such as generating an image, upscaling it, and then converting it to video using a model like Kling 2.1 or Luma Dream Machine—can run as a single API call.

Production studios can use the router to build redundancy into their workflows. If a specific cloud provider experiences downtime or high latency during a heavy rendering session, the router can automatically redirect the workload to an alternative provider hosting the same ComfyUI setup.

What it costs / how to try it

Comfy Router is currently available in a developer preview. ComfyOrg charges based on compute resources used per workflow execution, with pricing scaling according to the selected GPU tier and run duration. Developers can access the API keys and integration documentation directly through the ComfyOrg developer portal.
